Hi everyone!

Your friends at Socom Computers have a philosophy in providing computers to folks. That philosophy states: "The RIght Rig, for the Right Job."

Now what does that mean?

That means we will not sell you any old piece of crap! If you ask us to overclock a single core processor and then have it pair up with a quad SLi setup we will respectfully tell you why we cannot do it. (FYI: The processor would act as a bottleneck and we don't feel like being blamed for taking money on something so embarrassing)

Please understand, a computer is not a cheap throw away item. (even if you can afford to do it!) A computer is on the magnitude of a home water heater or even a car. You buy one for it to do specific jobs. When you have to get rid of it, you don't just throw it away. It needs special waste disposal to keep the parts from becoming toxic.

Why so picky you might ask? Well, you don't use a Humvee to do a Tank's job do you? Or vice versa! Wasting resources or allocating resources incorrectly makes our Socom Techs very very angry! A full blown gaming rig is not necessary for a 5 year old to go to their kiddie web sites and play flash games. An over-clocked Celeron/Pentium is still a low end processor that will NOT benchmark well compared to the latest Quad Core. So with that concept in mind...

How do we accomplish the goal of "the right Rig?"

We find out what you want to do with it. That's how! So, to anticipate your needs, we've come up with structured catagorizations to start.

So let's start with the Socom Computers "Levels of Magnitude." With the simplest rigs to the most advanced. Note that the examples are there for reference as of the date of this article's posting.

Level 1: Kids under the age of 6 (2 year max life): Sub-$400
Example: Cheap atom build

Level 2: General purpose web browsing (2 year max life): Sub- $500
Example: Net book - Small Business

Level 3: Utility Rig: General Home Office suite; mutli-tasking (2-3 year life): Sub- $700
Example: Energy efficient dual/tri core rig

Level 4: Long term Utility Rig, w/ good multimedia performance (3-4 year life): Sub-$1000
Example: Average Quad-core rig

Level 5: Performance Rig (3-4 years): $1500+
Example: Gaming/Video editing/transcoding rig

Level X: Extreme Rig (Life: Depends on user): $?????
Example: Over-clocked internals with mutli-vidcard setup and after-market cooling, custom parts.

These levels are a starting point for people thinking about what computers they need. Then we can give you exactly what is desired. Now you may be looking for a special purpose out of a custom rig. For example, a home media server. Where would that go? Well, I would say probably Level 2 or 3. I'm looking at the utility. It's just serving files after all. How about a video editing rig? Well, that would be at least level 5+. Video editing is an intense activity and plus... It's in the example. Just making sure you were paying attention!

Now that we speak the same language, if you want a new rig custom built, please email sales@socomcomputers.com and we will work with you for the optimum build.
